Addressing supply chain during Covid

We designed an e-commerce marketplace that connects small retailers to buy consumer package goods in bulk.
OVERVIEW

Redistributing slow moving products without sales channels

People scrambled to respond to the Covid pandemic, drastically changing their consumer habits. The shift in purchasing patterns negatively impacted the supply chain of major distributors. Suddenly, major consumer packagers had slow-moving products that they couldn’t find shelf space for. Matt Hildesheim and Devon Edmonds wanted a way to give new life to the millions of CPGs that were left unsold by connecting retailers to unsold inventory.
Not only does Stockhaus redistribute excess inventory into the hands of mom and pop shops, it also provides a supply chain management solution. We needed to ensure that the platform was clear in its writing and communicated the “buyer’s club” aspect of Stockhaus. A focus on clean design and user feedback was integral in the design process.

Team Purchase

Stockhaus allows distributors and small businesses to add their names to products through a “commit to purchase” at a minimum fixed quantity.

Customers work together by pooling their demand and capital in a bid to purchase case and pallet quantities of goods from major CPGs at prices they normally do not have access to.
Once the item reaches the minimum amount needed to go live, then anyone is welcome to purchase the item while the sale is still active and the products are still available.

Shortcut to Fulfilling the Order

Site visitors also have the ability to purchase the rest of the quantity needed to push the sale through so that it goes live. In this case, the quantity is set to the minimum needed, and the user can increase.

Once the minimum order quantity is reached, all pending orders for the item are turned to confirmed orders. Customers will get notified when their pending order will be fulfilled.

Designing for the Customer in Mind

Products listings include a variety of information that are relevant to our user group.
First off, two prices are included: the price per case, as well as the individual wholesale price. The latter is important in that buyers can immediately calculate markup per item. It was also important for the website to be transparent about the quantity left.

And for a sale that’s not live yet, users need insight into the amount to be reached before it is live.
